St Olavs Hospital

Project status
Norway / Hospital

At the St. Olavs Hospital in Trondheim the existing buildings are demolished and new hospital facilities are constructed on a surface of 206 600 m2m². The new hospital will have 900 beds. The hospital has chosen an Envac vacuum waste system to provide a high service level and stand up to the high demands on hygiene, occupational health and safety.

A new source separating technology for waste allows four different waste streams to be collected in one disposal inlet. The patented technology requires only one disposal inlet for all four fractions which are paper, confidential paper, residual and plastic. On every floor level there is a inlet point which is connected to the underground pipe network. It has 4 different buttons controlling which type of waste is going into which container at the end of the pipe net. When pressing the button for the selected type of waste underpressure transports the waste to the collection terminal, where it is diverted into the proper waste container. The installation of the system has been ordered by Helsebygg Central Norway and is a co-operation between YIT Building Systems and Envac Scandinavia AB.

The first phase of the installation was completed in the autumn of 2006. Phase 2 2006 to 2010 and the last phase 2-2 2010-2014.

The order has been received in collaboration with Envac's Norwegian partner YIT.
